Internship Initiative Kickoff Meeting

Friday, January 26th beginning from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM

On November 8, 2017, many business and higher education professionals spent the morning learning about the various issues involved in maximizing the number of internship opportunities to benefit both students and businesses in Greater Cincinnati.  At the end of the day, the group identified three priorities which, if removed, would have the greatest impact on increasing internship opportunities and help companies/industries develop and/or maintain a talent pipeline.  Those priorities are:

Value Added - promoting the value of internships as an investment in a businesses’ talent pipeline.

Centralization - making the internship process seamless, especially for the business community.  Develop a “one-stop” for businesses to obtain information about internships, from how to develop and manage internships to finding the talent.

Pay and Financing for Internships– identify ways companies can develop paid internships and work them into their long term budgets.

The follow up conversation to pursue solutions and determine the plan to address the priorities will be Friday, January 26th beginning from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.  We will meet in Room 104 of the Student Union at NKU.

Each work group will:

    1. Discuss the best way to identify solutions to remove or reduce the impact of the hurdle.

    2. Talk through a plan to address the issue(s) posed by the hurdle(s).  This may include deliverables, but certainly should include a meeting schedule going forward.

    3. Talk about communication, both within the Team and with the Leadership, and what that might look like going forward. This is important to keep solutions from bumping into each other.

Anyone interested in participating in this important initiative with the potential to greatly impact the region is invited.  If you wish to attend, or would like more information, please contact Janet Piccirillo, Executive Director of GC3 at piccirillj1@nku.edu or 859-392-2428.
