Breaking Through:  Women Changing the Leadership Landscape Forums Announced

CINCINNATI, OH – Union Institute & University announces the new Breaking Through:  Women Changing the Leadership Landscape Forums starting July 18, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at Union, 440 East McMillan Street.

“The Leadership Landscape Forums are being presented to share thoughts and ideas about how women are leading and engaging changing the communities,” said Dr. Rea Waldon, executive director of the Cincinnati Academic Center. Union wants to encourage and educate other women as well as potentially others to ‘step up/step out by hosting a series of forums that highlight how women have the potential to transform the ‘business as usual’ mindset that is prominent in many communities. The women participating in these forums are challenging the status quo and pushing beyond the limits and barriers in personal and professional settings.”

The 2018/2019 schedule is as follows:

July 18, 2018 The Politics of Politics – This session will focus on how and what it takes to run for political office.  Panelists have been asked to share the personal and professional impact of running for office as well as key issues that impact women.

Panelists are: 

  • Connie Pillich, former Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives
  • Roxanne Qualls former Cincinnati City Council member and mayor
  • Eileen Cooper Reed, past president of the Cincinnati Public School Board, former Director and Chair of the Board for InterAct for Health, past Board member and Chair of the SC Ministry Foundation and Director of the Children’s Defense Fund
  • Yvette Simpson two-term Cincinnati City Council member and candidate for mayor

October 17, 2018 Health Disparities – This session will focus on health issues that have a greater impact on women including public policies that either help or hinder treatment.

January 16, 2019 Professional Leadership – This session is focused on women who have the ability to impact the business and physical landscape of our region with the unique background and experiences they bring to the table.  They serve as examples of how skills from one industry can be leveraged to serve effectively in another arena.

April 15, 2019 Social Investing – Focused on organizations that fund investments that impact the greater good for individuals and/or communities.

“I invite all women and young ladies to join us to hear the inspirational stories of courageousness, commitment, and passion to step up and speak up in an effort to drive change. Leaders will share their story of how she moved outside her comfort zone to stretch boundaries and transform communities,” said Dr. Waldon.

The forums are free. The first event is Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Union Institute & University, Cincinnati Academic Center, 440 East McMillan Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.
